Now Hiring:
Operations & Communications Lead
What is the job?
Are you a thoughtful, organized person with a strong social change analysis and lived experience that helped to shape the way you think about things like transformative justice and the need for having people with lived experience of oppression in roles of leadership? Are you someone who would enjoy working in a dynamic, creative, and rewarding role with serious intent but with a flair of whimsy and world-building that would never leave you bored? If that sounds like you, check this out:
Resources for Organizing and Social Change (ROSC) is looking for someone to become our new Operations & Communications Lead, a crucial administrative and organizing role that will help us with our backend operations and front-facing project work.
ROSC is a movement-building organization that shares resources and supports people who want to engage in social change work, particularly those who are the most affected by oppressive systems. Our goal is to build infrastructure and strengthen cross-issue, statewide movement-building by increasing leadership development for grassroots organizers, promoting democratic practices within organizations, and supporting work that gets to the root causes of injustice. Our mission is to build and support a movement for nonviolent social change that will educate, activate, & empower people in “Maine” through grassroots community organizing.
The role of the Operations & Communications Lead (OCL) sits at the heart of our organization, supporting day-to-day operations while helping to tell our story, strengthen relationships, and keep projects moving forward. The OCL will work closely with our Executive Director to execute the administrative functions of the organization and its projects. This position would best suit someone who loves to self-start and take the lead, has some experience working in small teams for big things, and is excited to imagine a more just world out loud. The job requires a lot of motivation and attention to detail, but as mentioned, there’s definitely a playful quality to our work culture. It will require you to be serious about social change and staying on task so we can do what we do, but it will also welcome the whole of who you are, especially the goofy and creative bits.
We are looking for someone who understands the structural drivers of today’s world and believes we can achieve something better through collective liberation and a willingness to imagine. The ideal candidate will have a healthy mix of professional and lived experience that offers both skill and heart.
This is a mostly remote position with some travel required. You will be working on a two-person staff team, along with periodic contractors, partners, volunteers, and dedicated members of our board.
To get a more detailed sense of ROSC’s work, please visit the Projects tab of our website at www.resourcesforsocialchange.org/home/#projects
**Please note that we place quotations around the name “Maine” because that is the colonial name given to the land we do our work on, which is unceded Wabanaki/Abenaki territory. European settlers have violently colonized this continent for hundreds of years, while the labor of Black people has been forced and exploited to build the wealth of white families for generations. The work ROSC does is rooted in collective liberation, and we recognize that there is power in language. This land is unceded Wabanaki/Abenaki territory, colonially known as “Maine.”
